# Representative sample studies

A representative sample is a sample that reflects the demographic distribution of a given (often national) population, with the aim of making your research findings more generalisable.

They are created using the standard [create study flow](https://docs.prolific.com/docs/api-docs/public/#tag/Studies/operation/CreateStudy) by setting the `study_type` parameter to one of the supported types.
